Salary Range: Band 5 ($95,346-$108,078) (Remuneration stated is for the full-time positions)

Work type: Temporary Full-time

Duration: Up to 24 months (Extension/s thereafter but not guaranteed).

Location: North or South Regional Business Centre (Chermside or Yeerongpilly)

Development Services facilitates high-quality, sustainable development outcomes for Brisbane, through efficient and professional development assessment and management processes, systems and practices. As a plumbing regulator, Plumbing Services Group (PSG) is responsible for applying the Plumbing and Drainage Act, Australian Standards and Plumbing Code of Australia legislated requirements.

The Role

We are seeking 2 x Plumbing Officers to join our team, ensuring that all sanitary plumbing, water supply, and drainage installations comply with Plumbing Legislation.

In this role, you will conduct inspections on both private and government properties, issue permits, maintain compliance records, and provide technical advice to internal and external customers.

Your responsibilities will include preparing reports, issuing compliance certificates, and taking enforcement actions to ensure adherence to legislation.

This role involves significant fieldwork (80%), where you will independently conduct inspections and maintain strong customer relationships, providing clear communication about identified non-compliant plumbing and necessary actions.

Key Accountabilities:

  • lead by example in delivering excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • collaborate with team leaders to set performance standards and receive regular feedback for continuous improvement
  • inspect plumbing and drainage installations, issue permits, and ensure compliance with legislation and Council policies
  • investigate non-compliance issues, prepare reports, and issue enforcement actions when necessary
  • provide technical advice to customers and support ongoing professional development in plumbing.

To be successful in this role, you will need 

  • previous experience in plumbing and drainage
  • experience applying plumbing and drainage legislation in both commercial and domestic plumbing environments will be highly regarded
  • strong problem-solving skills and the ability to come up with practical solutions in both settings
  • proven experience in building relationships and making informed decisions
  • a quick learner with the ability to maintain a good understanding of Council processes and policies
  • excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • proficiency in using computer systems and software packages
  • the ability to contribute to team discussions and accept constructive feedback to improve performance
  • valid Queensland Plumber and Drainer License is a must
  • class C Driver’s License.
