Tennyson Ward Officer - Oxley Buy-Back Block Rejuvenation Project

Personnel Area: Governance and Legal Services

Salary Range: AUD $85,678.83 - $94,825.00 per annum plus Superannuation

(Remuneration is based on full-time positions)

Work Type: Temporary Part Time 1 Day Per Week

Duration: Three Months (mid-January to mid-April 2026)

Location: Tennyson Ward Office (Fairfield) and onsite (Oxley, Graceville, Sherwood)

Commencement: Mid-January 2026

About Tennyson Ward:

The ward of Tennyson includes Chelmer, Fairfield, Graceville, Sherwood, Tennyson, Yeerongpilly, Yeronga, Corinda and parts of Oxley and Annerley. Ward Officer, Oxley Rejuvenation Project

A unique opportunity exists for a person with arboreal or landscaping qualifications or knowledge to join the Tennyson Ward Office as a Ward Officer for 1 day per week for a three month contract. TAFE and University students undertaking relevant qualifications or recent graduates are welcome to apply. Your role will be working with Councillor Johnston and her team to revegetate vacant buy-back blocks in Oxley. In addition, you will help to plan the rejuvenation of the buy-back blocks in Graceville and Sherwood. The role will include landscape planning and liaising with residents and other stakeholders. Knowledge (or the ability to obtain) of the local landmarks, streets and local species is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Key responsibilities:

  • developing small site plans for tree planting across 40 buy-back blocks in Oxley (masterplan completed)
  • collaborating with Oxley Creek Catchment Association to identify and source appropriate species for planting
  • notifying residents via a flyer drop about community tree planting day(s) in their streets
  • managing logistics, coordinating and delivering tree planting days in collaboration with Oxley Creek Catchment Association and Oxley residents (as directed by the Councillor)
  • a willingness to liaise with residents to resolve customer requests and enquiries, with the ability to take detailed information, and communicate updates and outcomes to residents
  • collaborating with the Tennyson Ward office team who will produce communication materials for distribution

Key Attributes:

  • TAFE or university qualification in arboriculture, landscaping or related fields (recently graduated or students working towards a qualification are welcome to apply)
  • knowledge of Brisbane's native vegetation and/or Oxley Creek catchment area highly desirable
  • well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a small team
  • highly developed time management and prioritisation skills
  • independent transport required
  • familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite

Your willingness and enthusiasm to get the job done will contribute to the effective delivery of this valuable green space rejuvenation project.

This role will include weekend work by agreement.
