Our Branch
Public Space Operations sits within Brisbane Infrastructure and is responsible for the day‑to‑day maintenance and enhancement of Council’s parks, roadside landscapes and public spaces. Our teams deliver essential horticultural, landscaping and minor infrastructure services that directly support the way people live, work and move through Brisbane. The Role
As a Greenspace Team Leader, you will be responsible for leading small field‑based team delivering a broad range of parks, roadside maintenance and horticultural services across Brisbane. This is a practical, hands‑on leadership role where your decisions directly shape the condition, presentation and safety of public spaces used by thousands of residents every day.
You will coordinate daily work programs, mentor staff, ensure safe work practices, manage customer requests and deliver greenspace services to agreed service levels. Your ability to problem‑solve in the field, plan ahead, and foster effective working relationships will be key to your success.
In this role you will:
- lead, support and develop a field-based team delivering park, roadside and horticultural maintenance
- plan, allocate and monitor daily work programs, including seasonal maintenance and enhancement works
- undertake and supervise horticultural activities such as planting, garden bed maintenance, turf management, hedge maintenance, basic tree assessment and formative pruning
- coordinate rehabilitation and regeneration works in parks and roadside landscapes
- maintain accurate records relating to work activities, attendance, incidents, spraying and public interactions
- safely operate and maintain vehicles, plant and equipment in accordance with Council standards and HVNR/TORUM requirements
- prepare and apply chemicals in line with WHS requirements and maintain accurate application records
- liaise with internal support roles to source materials and services required by the team
- ensure Zero Harm by promoting safe work behaviours and complying with WHS legislation
- role model Council’s values, customer focus and safety culture in line with the Leadership Blueprint and Zero Harm principles
- identify opportunities for service improvements and implement changes that lift performance
To be successful you will have:
- experience leading small operational field teams in horticulture, maintenance, construction or similar environments
- a Certificate III in Horticulture (or equivalent) and/or substantial practical experience in parks or roadside landscape maintenance
- the ability to plan and deliver work programs using people, plant and materials to meet timeframes and service expectations
- sound knowledge of safe work practices, WHS requirements and environmental responsibilities in a field‑based setting
- the ability to issue clear work instructions and communicate effectively with team members, customers and stakeholders
- competent written skills to prepare basic operational correspondence, reports and work records
- experience using computer systems such as MS Office and field‑based workforce systems
- a current MR (truck) licence and ACDC Commercial Operator’s Licence
Desirable:
- Traffic Management Level II certification
