The Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Leader of Security Operations to oversee the day-to-day security operations across the university’s Callaghan, Ourimbah, Central Coast, Newcastle City and remote campuses. This is a newly created role to meet the demands of our expanding campus network and 24/7 operations.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Campus Security, you will lead the operational delivery of all security services and systems, manage contracted security teams, and act as a key escalation point for emergencies and critical incidents. You’ll also step into the role of Chief Warden in the Senior Manager’s absence and play a crucial role in refining and evolving our customer-centric security model.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of 24/7 contracted security services across multiple campuses.
- Lead a large, contracted team of security professionals.
- Coordinate emergency response and critical incident management.
- Oversee and improve operational procedures, policy implementation, and compliance.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including local and federal authorities / groups, and emergency services.
- Conduct, review and implement initiatives identified through security risk assessments and audits.
- Deliver a high-level customer service approach and promote a culture of safety and security across the organisation.
- Support budget oversight and contractor performance evaluation.
- Contribute ideas and initiatives to improve Campus Security service delivery initiatives.
This role requires participation in a rotating after hours on-call roster responsibilities
This continuing position is full time at a HEW 8 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus. You will be required to work from other campuses at the direction of the Senior Manager, Campus Security and more broadly the University.

You’ll have:
- Significant experience in security operations, ideally in a large, complex university setting.
- Proven ability to manage and supervise contract teams and large-scale operations.
- Strong knowledge of security systems, emergency response, and security risk management.
- Experience handling emergencies and critical incidents.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A customer service mindset and collaborative approach.
- Flexibility to work on a rotating roster and be on-call for after-hours escalation.
- A current NSW Class 2A Security Licence.

- Demonstrated ability to strengthen and integrate Equity and Diversity, Health and Safety, WHS principles and the capacity to implement relevant plans and policies.

- Previous experience working with a large Security team within a complex, multicampus university environment.
