Overview of our role

This role brings together deep analytical expertise and thoughtful commercial insight to shape pricing strategy, demand forecasting and tariff design across Jemena’s electricity and gas networks.

Blending advanced analytics, econometrics and data science, you will transform complex data into meaningful direction — strengthening Jemena’s pricing capability through carefully developed insights, intuitive scenario tools and robust predictive models. Your work will help guide tariff design, inform long-term pricing strategy and support sustainable revenue optimisation.

At its heart, this role is about pairing precision with perspective — using data not just to calculate outcomes, but to create clarity, confidence and long-term value. This includes:

  • Integrating large datasets (meter data, customer data, socio-economic data) to derive actionable insights
  • Statistical/econometric modelling of demand, customer behaviour and price responsiveness
  • Modernisation of pricing models using Python/R‑based analytics
  • Analytical support for annual pricing proposals, Price Resets and business planning

A little about you

  • Experience in data science, econometrics, quantitative analysis, energy analytics, pricing or related disciplines.
  • Proven ability to build and refine econometric and machine-learning models that guide pricing strategy.
  • Confident working with large, complex datasets — from smart meter and operational data to socio-economic insights.
  • Collaborative in partnering across teams to translate analytics into meaningful regulatory and customer outcomes.
  • Skilled at turning analytical results into clear pricing insights and thoughtful commercial recommendations.
  • Understanding of the Australian energy sector preferred; exposure to pricing or interval meter data highly regarded.
  • Delivers accurate, high-quality analysis within regulatory and business timeframes. 

Qualifications / certifications & Skills

  • Strong foundation in statistical modelling, econometrics, machine learning, optimisation techniques and time‑series forecasting.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, DAX and/or STATA for modelling, data manipulation and automation.
  • Experience with SQL, PowerBI, Shiny, cloud data environments like Databricks, Jupyter notebooks or equivalent.
  • Ability to work with large, complex datasets (smart meter data, operational data, customer segmentation data).
  • Bachelor’s or postgraduate qualifications in Data Science, Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Studies, Engineering, Economics or similar.
