Our Branch
People and Culture Branch sits within Council’s Organisational Services Division and focuses on all matters relating to the employment, retention and development of our people.
The Role
This position enhances employment opportunities and support within the Council, focusing on inclusive recruitment, development, and retention practices.
This role participates in general diversity and inclusion (D&I) initiatives, with a specific focus on initiatives or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, offering culturally appropriate consultancy and career coaching to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees reach their full potential. The consultant develops strategic partnerships with community members, industry groups, and government bodies to foster a supportive work environment.
Collaborating across the organisation, the consultant connects employees to internal services that support their career goals. Responsibilities include managing programmes and projects, providing specialist advice on diversity and inclusion best practices, and improving processes with key stakeholders.
This is an identified role and therefore it is essential that the individual is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).
To be successful you will have:
- high-level communication skills to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander employees at Council
- understanding of employment initiatives and culturally appropriate mentoring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, focusing on career and capability development
- skills in developing and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders
- project management and organisational skills to deliver outcomes on time and within budget
- knowledge and understanding of diversity and inclusion strategies and policies.
