This is an exciting opportunity for a Traction Power Engineers (senior to Principal) to join our renowned Rail team based in our Melbourne office - a dedicated and high-performing team of Rail engineering professionals, to drive future ready projects and undertake traction power design, system modelling and analysis, spanning local, interstate and international DC & AC networks.

Our Transport and Infrastructure team leverages the latest technology and a culture of innovation across the planning, design, and management disciplines to deliver connectivity, mobility, and resiliency to Australian communities.

You will be working on complex jobs assisting Rail clients throughout entire asset lifecycles to plan, detail and model traction power solutions to enable them to strategically invest for future rail assets and to enable them to deliver best for value outcomes, whilst working collaboratively within an established and diverse Traction Power Team and industry recognised leader in the field.

This role is strategically important to our future growth and impact. We are looking for someone who has a can-do attitude, who is consultative, able to prioritise their work and get things done. The successful candidate will be a team player, and able to work with a range of stakeholders including influencing senior leaders

What you’ll do:

  • You will have experience in the design of AC traction substations, including production of required drawings, documentation and calculations. This will include single line diagrams, layout plans, cable and equipment sizing
  • Work in Earthing and bonding projects, which will need solid experience, preferably in a rail environment
  • Use your knowledge in power system protection in a number of exciting projects
  • Use your knowledge of the effects of DC stray current corrosion and EMI/EMC, and their appropriate mitigation to successfully complete projects
  • Use your knowledge of other rail systems which interface with traction power (e.g. OHW, Signalling, Track, LV services)

What we'll love about you:

  • Degree qualified Electrical Engineer
  • Solid and proven experience in Traction Power and Earthing and Bonding
  • HV Electrical Engineer, preferably with specialisation in Traction Power Design, with experience working in a consulting environment
  • Very good analytical skills and strong communication skills
  • Preferably have power system modelling experience
  • Preferably have power system modelling experience
