The opportunity
We’re looking for an inspiring leader to head up our Queensland Ecology practice.
The location is flexible between Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast. We are happy to consider full-time or part-time arrangements.
In this role, you’ll balance team leadership with project delivery (approx. 60%).
As a recognised technical expert in WSP Ecology and the broader industry, you’ll bring your knowledge to complex projects, collaborate with industry leaders and client managers, and help shape market strategies.
You’ll provide high-quality ecological advice across all stages of infrastructure and natural resource projects; from early constraints and biodiversity surveys to impact assessments, offsets, and management plans.
You’ll also support and mentor your team, with help from Director-level consultants, and encourage innovative thinking to drive strong conservation outcomes.
In return, you’ll be part of a large national network of ecologists and specialists, working on diverse projects across renewables, infrastructure, mining, and conservation. You’ll also have opportunities to work in unique ecosystems across Australia and continue developing your skills in strategy, business growth, and talent development.
What we'll love about you
We’re looking for a candidate with 5+ years of consulting experience in biodiversity impact assessment, environmental offsets, and mine rehabilitation.
Leadership experience (whether established or emerging) is important, along with strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a positive approach to team engagement.
You’ll bring a solid understanding of people and team dynamics, with a track record of building or leading high-performing teams.
You will also bring the following experience and attributes:
- Significant field experience in rehabilitation monitoring, protected plants and marine plant surveys, threatened ecological community verification, ecological data collection and analysis, managing field teams, etc.
- Experience in developing re-vegetation and vegetation management plans
- Experience in field verification and GIS mapping of vegetation communities / regional ecosystems and managing spatial datasets
- Knowledge of Queensland regional ecosystem framework and Commonwealth environmental offset policies and associated guidelines
- Demonstrated technical writing and ability to interpret legislation and policy
- Have a passion for ecology, conservation, biodiversity and natural resources management
- Be willing to undertake fieldwork including extended trips to remote areas across Queensland and nationally
