The opportunity
As an Associate or Senior Associate Surface Water Engineer, you’ll be a technical leader in surface water and flooding, helping clients make confident, climate‑smart decisions, while collaborating across disciplines to translate modelling insights into buildable, future‑ready designs. What you’ll do
- Lead and deliver surface water and flood risk assessments, including hydrologic and hydraulic 1D/2D modelling.
- Undertake designs for stormwater and surface water systems producing detailed design packages and stormwater infrastructure solutions that support Civil/Geotechnical teams across waste management, mining, renewable energy and other industrial developments in Australia and internationally.
- Manage multidisciplinary projects from planning through to detailed design, ensuring technical excellence, quality and client satisfaction.
- Prepare and review environmental assessments, high‑quality technical reports, proposals and detailed design packages for stormwater infrastructure.
- Mentor and develop early‑career engineers in a collaborative, high‑performing environment.
- Contribute to client development and pursuits, supporting bids, proposals and the development of trusted long‑term partnerships.
- Drive innovation in flood resilience, climate change adaptation and sustainable water management, leveraging new technologies and industry best practice.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil or Environmental Engineering; postgraduate water resources qualifications valued.
- ~8+ years’ experience in water resources/surface water, with strong project delivery credentials.
- Detailed design experience in stormwater management infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of NSW and Australian water frameworks, standards and approvals pathways.
- Desirable: erosion and sediment control expertise; Dam Break / Consequence Category Assessment experience.
- Proficiency across hydrology (RORB, XP‑RAFTS, WBMN, AWBM), hydraulics (TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS, XP‑SWMM/STORM, DRAINS), water balance (GoldSim or similar), and GIS/CAD (ArcGIS/QGIS/MapInfo; exposure to AutoCAD/Civil 3D).
- Consulting mindset: clear communication, client engagement, and proposal support.
- CPEng or equivalent industry recognition is an advantage.
