We are seeking a highly experienced Technical Executive – Fire Safety Engineer to drive advanced fire engineering analysis, strategic technical leadership, and innovative solutions across major projects. In this senior role, you will contribute directly to safeguarding communities while supporting the continued growth and capability of our Fire Engineering business.

About the Role

As a Technical Executive, you will deliver high‑level expertise in performance-based fire engineering design and risk analysis across nationally and internationally significant projects. You will also support strategic planning, business performance, people leadership, and industry engagement.

You'll join our Geotechnical & Tunnels team, which comprises more than 400 geotechnical, geological, and tunnelling specialists nationwide, offering unparalleled depth of expertise to clients across transport, energy, buildings, mining, water, and defence sectors

Your ability to balance innovation, technical excellence, stakeholder engagement, and commercial outcomes will be key to your success.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Business Leadership

  • Contribute to business unit strategic goals and 3‑year planning.
  • Assist with financial and non-financial performance analysis.
  • Approve offers, contracts, and expenditure within delegated limits.
  • Represent the business at executive meetings and strategic retreats.

Technical Excellence

  • Provide innovative, high‑level technical leadership on major fire engineering projects.
  • Prepare and review complex performance reports and technical documentation.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and large-scale scopes.
  • Apply and champion Safety‑in‑Design practices.
  • Manage risk across substantial and complex project portfolios.
  • Use and guide others in advanced BIM software.

People & Client Leadership

  • Mentor and develop technical capability across the team.
  • Audit QA and OH&S systems and support junior staff.
  • Build strong client relationships, guiding them through technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver exceptional client outcomes that improve safety, time, and cost performance.

Industry & Brand Representation

  • Represent WSP in industry organisations and regional market forums.
  • Promote the Fire Engineering business across local and national markets.

Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with company governance, procedures, policies, and SHEQ obligations.

About You

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science, or related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications will be well-regarded
  • Typically 15+ years’ experience with recognised technical authority in the field.
  • Demonstrated leadership across high-profile national and/or international projects.
  • Strong BIM proficiency and advanced technical competency.
  • Proven track record of business development success and risk management.
  • Experience leading diverse, multidisciplinary project teams.
