About The Company

Jemena owns and operates more than $11.5 billion worth of major utility infrastructure. We have been providing safe, secure, and reliable energy to Australians for more than 100 years. Our focus is on developing innovative solutions to the energy trilemma of reliability, affordability and sustainability.

About The Role

We currently have an opportunity for a Legal Counsel role to work in our Melbourne office, providing legal services across our business Group (Jemena, Zinfra and Ovida).

Specifically, the role in our Markets legal team reports to the Lead Counsel – Unregulated Markets and will focus on supporting:

  • Commercial arrangements for our gas pipelines and electricity services assets;
  • Growth projects in those areas; and
  • Zinfra’s utilities maintenance and contracting business.

The role would suit candidates with 3 - 7 years post admission experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Negotiating, drafting and providing advice in relation to commercial arrangements for the provision of energy services to Jemena’s customers
  • Drafting contracts for the procurement and supply of physical works and professional services
  • Advising on electricity and gas infrastructure projects
  • Providing legal advice and undertaking research in relation to legal aspects of commercial, regulatory and compliance matters
  • Assisting the business to manage litigation and commercial disputes
  • Managing the interface between external counsel and the Jemena business

Who we're looking for

As the successful candidate, you bring experience (post admission) gained in-house or with a law firm in providing advice to the energy, utilities or construction sectors. You showcase experience negotiating, reviewing and drafting contracts coupled with astute analytical skills regarding complex legal issues and are able to identify commercial and risk implications for the relevant Jemena business unit.

You display the confidence, capability and prioritising skills to navigate competing demands of various business groups. You thrive in fast paced change and deal with ambiguity, effectively managing the often changing priorities. Finally, you couple a 'can do' attitude with a positive, friendly demeanour. These traits will ensure success in this highly-visible role. In return for your skills, experience and attitude, we offer a competitive remuneration package and you join a leading Australian business.
