About the role
As Legal Counsel – Property, you will lead a team of 8 highly experienced professionals in providing strategic and specialist legal across a wide range of property-related matters, including:
- Land tenure arrangements, town planning agreements and resumptions
- Securities, leasing and commercial property matters
- Native Title and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage issues
- Council assets and property projects
In this role you will:
- lead the delivery of legal services and support the Group Executive and General Counsel of Governance and Legal services, Deputy General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel (Planning and Governance)
- provide specialist legal skills and advice on a wide range of critical and sensitive issues to Council
- manage a specialist team
- demonstrate responsibility and accountability for the performance and outcomes of the work area by taking a leadership role with respect to corporate deliverables and branch performance against established corporate, performance and business outcomes.
About you
- Have a minimum of 7 years post admission experience gained in property law. Candidates with more experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong background in property law with experience in planning, leasing and land tenure arrangements
- Ability to deliver strategic legal advice on complex property and development issues
- Strong advocacy, advisory and stakeholder management skills
- Capacity to support senior counsel and contribute to governance outcomes
