CARS is divided into four dynamic work areas, all working together to deliver compliance and provide the highest level of community value to Brisbane residents.

The Role

As an Operational Supervisor for RRG (Rapid Response Group), you will be responsible for supervising a team of field-based, multi-skilled Rapid Response Officers who are responsible for undertaking investigation into breaches of a range of Local Laws and State Government Legislation, as well as rapid damage assessment and other disaster management activities as required.

Within this role you will be leading and supporting a team in maintaining public health and safety and contributing to a liveable Brisbane ensuring effective compliance outcomes including education and taking enforcement action as required.

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic leader with the ability to think on their feet, interpret legislation effectively, and make sound, timely decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Key accountabilities include:

  • oversee and manage a field team responsible for investigating violations of local laws and applicable State legislation, and for addressing public safety concerns
  • ensure effective management of team performance by setting clear objectives, monitoring progress, providing feedback, and supporting development to achieve operational goals
  • coordinate and dispatch work assignments to the team during after-hours operations, ensuring timely response and efficient allocation of resources
  • manage and resolve complaints and queries by promptly responding to concerns, investigating issues thoroughly, maintaining clear communication with stakeholders, and ensuring satisfactory outcomes
  • contribute to strategic planning, providing insights and input into business improvements, and actively participating in the development and delivery of projects that enhance operational effectiveness.

This role involves some field work and has an 8 days on/ 6 days off roster, consisting of 9.5 hour morning and afternoon shifts including weekends and public holidays.

To be successful you will have: 

  • operational understanding of Brisbane City Council’s regulatory framework, in particular legislation, local laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines relating to local government licensing and regulatory compliance in Queensland.
  • demonstrated strong leadership skills aligned with Council’s Leadership Blueprint, with the ability to lead confidently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 
  • well-developed communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to prepare and present clear and accurate reports and briefings to all levels of management
  • the ability to lead performance through setting clear direction and expectations, coaching and mentoring officers in the field, and monitoring ongoing performance of individuals and the team
  • demonstrated ability to consistently plan, schedule, coordinate and prioritise workload and projects to meet deadlines with minimal supervision; and
  • well-developed conflict resolution, negotiation, interpersonal, and customer service skills including demonstrated ability to liaise with various stakeholders to achieve effective outcomes.
