The Strategic Procurement branch within the Corporate Services group sources and manages contracts and Brisbane City Council’s procurement of goods, services, and works to deliver the best outcomes for Brisbane.
As a Category Specialist, you will provide expertise and strategic leadership in category management for medium-risk, medium-value contracts and key suppliers. You will collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimise the value chain, conduct spend and financial analysis, manage demand, oversee contracts, and maintain strong supplier relationships. The role also contributes to procurement policies and the development and implementation of category plans that deliver value for money for Council. Higher-complexity categories may also be managed with support from Principal Category Specialists.
To be considered, you will have:
- experience in strategic sourcing, procurement planning, and contract management across multiple spend categories
- skilled in market analysis, supplier evaluation, and value chain optimisation, and developing and implementing sourcing strategies
- knowledge of end-to-end contract lifecycle, including negotiation, execution, compliance monitoring, and supplier performance management
- ability to monitor category performance, manage supply risks, and ensure continuity of supply
- strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and government stakeholders, and
- familiarity with procurement policies, demand management, and contract management systems.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (e.g., Logistics, Procurement, Commerce, or Business) and/or MCIPS accreditation, along with a strong understanding of contract law and the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislative requirements, are highly desirable.
