About the role

This role will see you manage the beautiful grounds of UNSW Kensington Campus. Oversee all aspects of site operations including scheduling, resource management, client liaison and leadership and development of a dedicated site team.

This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned horticulturist or turf maintenance technician. The role oversees the overall care of the numerous lawns and open spaces around the university campus - they love to have the entire campus looking pristine all year round and the lawns and open spaces are an important part of supporting student life.

About You 

You have successfully completed a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management or Horticulture and have recent experience working at a high-quality site. You are seeking a change and would relish the chance to be responsible for maintaining and enhancing green spaces across a prestigious site. 

You are proud of your knowledge levels when it comes to grass species, growth habits, and maintenance requirements. You are familiar with all equipment and machinery used in the horticulture, lawn and turf world, including mowers, aerators, and sprayers.

You have, or are willing to obtain, a valid white card and working with children check. You are also prepared to undertake a national police check - this is an absolute requirement given the nature of this site.

You have previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role where you have proven yourself to be able to motivate and develop your team members to get the best out of them. This role will have responsibility for performance management of staff and also ensuring successful training of apprentices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, guide and support a team as they perform regular maintenance tasks such as mowing, aerating, and topdressing to uphold the quality and useability of lawn, turf and open space surfaces.
  • Plan, schedule and oversee planting, high detail pruning, hedging, fertilising, pest control and the delivery of an integrated weed management plan throughout all areas of the site
  • Collaborate with the client to understand their preferences and expectations, address concerns, and provide recommendations
  • Conduct site assessments to identify maintenance needs, develop work plans, and estimate resource requirements with the assistance of Contract Manager and supply monthly reporting to management
  • Implement a seasonal turf renovation and recovery program as well as and monitoring lawn and turf health throughout the entire year and proactively addressing issues such as pests, diseases, and compaction through appropriate cultural and chemical practices.
  • Ensure correct operation and maintenance of tools, specialised equipment and machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety
  • Implement sustainable management practices, including water conservation strategies, and pest management techniques.
  • Collaborate with other teams to coordinate maintenance schedules, prioritise tasks, and deliver exceptional results.
