Job Overview
The Project Scheduler supports complex engineering and construction projects by developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules across all phases—from planning through closeout. Operating at an advanced level within the project controls scheduling/planning discipline, this role manages increasingly complex assignments with limited oversight, collaborates closely with cross-functional stakeholders, and helps ensure successful project execution and alignment.
The Project Scheduler is responsible for creating detailed schedules, integrating cost and schedule data with the Cost Lead, supporting earned value management, and ensuring that all project teams adhere to the scheduling standards, policies, procedures, and systems. This role requires strong technical expertise, independent decision-making, and the ability to guide other schedulers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, detail, expand, and maintain master project schedules for planning, procurement, development, construction, and maintenance activities.
- Ensure all schedules conform to client scheduling standards and project controls requirements.
- Maintain baseline and forecast schedules throughout all project stages, incorporating physical progress updates, change management, and input from Control Account Managers.
- Interpret schedule performance, assess impacts of schedule updates, identify risks, and communicate trends and concerns to the Project Manager.
- Analyze schedule performance metrics, critical paths, and variances to support informed project decisions.
- Create detailed “what-if” scenarios, evaluate logic-driven options, and provide planning guidance as needed.
- Collaborate with project staff and Control Account Managers to gather accurate dates, sequencing, logic, and budget information for schedule updates.
- Cost-load detailed activities within the master schedule to support a performance measurement baseline integrated with the cost management system.
- Partner closely with the Project Cost Controller for cost–schedule integration and earned value reporting.
- Work with third-party and subcontractor schedulers to ensure alignment with client requirements and seamless integration into the master schedule.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to align engineering deliverables, procurement plans, construction schedules, and other key milestones.
- Provide analytical scheduling insights and coordination support for internal and external project activities.
- Prepare and provide schedules, reports, updates, and other planning documentation required for project completion.
- Apply rolling-wave planning to develop detailed execution schedules for functional groups (Environment, Engineering, Land/ROW, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Field Controls Analyst to produce weekly construction reporting.
- Work with the Project Manager and project stakeholders to regularly review, validate, and update schedules.
- Participate in meetings to stay current on scope changes, cost impacts, schedule deviations, and progress updates.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with a broad cross-section of internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with systems enhancement testing as required.
- Recommend improvements to scheduling processes, tools, and efficiencies.
- Support project teams, functional teams, and client organizational goals.
- Serve as the primary scheduling representative for assigned projects and provide guidance to junior or intermediate schedulers as needed.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, accounting, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of planning/scheduling experience on engineering and construction projects; oil and gas experience preferred.
- Expert-level proficiency in Primavera P6.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Timeline Pro, MS Word, SharePoint, and advanced Excel skills.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting large, complex, multi-scope capital projects in the oil and gas sector, preferably on the owner's side.
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and its application in project management.
Preferred

- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and self-motivated.
- Ability to manage workload efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong capability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
