About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Project and Cost Controls Specialist to join our team. This position is responsible for owning project and cost controls for maintenance capital work, with Asset Management as the Project Manager. You will provide comprehensive capital project support for the full Operations capital support, including variances, accruals, and reporting. Your role will be crucial in supporting the Prairie Region with project and cost control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Track, update, and report on all capital projects within the Asset Management Team.
- Create, track, and close Work Orders (WO) and Purchase Orders (PO) within the Asset Management Team.
- Assist with project execution and management, including accruals, revisions, expenditure reports, and variance analysis.
- Provide portfolio-level support across Operations, including variances, accruals, reporting, Oracle project setup, and Copperleaf investment setup.
- Generate regular and ad hoc analysis, including graphs, summary tables, and presentations.
- Establish portfolio-level reporting.
- Collaborate with internal teams to understand incurred costs and compare against budget and monthly forecast values.
- Provide project and cost control support for the Prairie Region, including monthly forecast submissions, reporting, accruals, scope changes, and project setups.
- Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Prepare project status reports with variance analysis and reasoning for Senior and Project Management.
Scope:
- Proactively manage cost controls throughout the project lifecycle, including facilitating change management.
- Provide financial review and analysis as requested by Project Managers.
- Support monthly and year-end accruals for Regional Project Managers.
- Review Capital Expenditure reports and advise on Regional Project Managers’ monthly sign-offs.
- Support monthly forecasting for Project Managers.
- Submit Capital AFE requests, revisions, and closures as necessary.
- Forecast project costs with detailed cost variance analysis.
- Prepare and analyze project status reports.
- Assist with Oracle Work Order creation and management.
- Assist with RFQs and RFPs as requested.
- Support execution and project management as required.
- Prepare investments in Copperleaf for Operations Failure Allowance portfolio.
Qualifications:
Required:
- University Degree or Technical Diploma in Engineering or Accounting-related fields. Other Post-Secondary education may be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of Project Controls or Project Management experience.
- General understanding of pipeline and terminal operations.
- High proficiency in MS Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, graph generation, sumifs, etc.).
- Ability to predict obstacles, challenges, and risks to proactively determine mitigation strategies and innovative solutions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience with MS Office Suite, Oracle/SAP.
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, organization, planning, and leadership skills.
- Collaborative, team- and service-oriented work style.
- Motivated self-starter who works well independently in a fast-paced team environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Proficient knowledge in PowerBi.
- Registration in a professional society related to post-secondary education.
- Project Management professional designation.
- Experience with Copperleaf.
