  • Inspire and engage a geographically dispersed blue-collar workforce

Personnel Area: Infrastructure Services

Branch: Public Space Operations

Duration: Contract – 4 years

Brisbane City Council is Australia’s largest local government, managing assets worth over $39 billion and delivering services that shape the future of our city. We are seeking an experienced executive to lead our Public Space Operations Branch, a critical delivery arm within the Infrastructure Services Group.

The Infrastructure Services Group (ISG) delivers Council’s asset management, planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance, and transport operations. Within ISG, Public Space Operations is a service delivery, customer focused and commercially driven business that prides itself on keeping Brisbane’s streets and public spaces clean, green and safe for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

As General Manager, Open Space Maintenance, you will oversee a $200M annual budget and lead a workforce of over 630 employees responsible for maintaining Brisbane’s green spaces, botanic gardens, high-profile parks, urban cleansing, signage, arboriculture, stormwater treatment assets, and emergency response operations. This role demands strategic leadership to ensure integrated, cost-effective service delivery while championing safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility.

To succeed in this role, you will be more than a strategist, you will be a leader who inspires. You will bring proven experience leading large, geographically dispersed blue-collar teams, engaging with authenticity and building a culture of trust and accountability. You will have the ability to win hearts and minds, guiding teams through change and transformation while modernising systems and processes. Your leadership style will be relatable and people-focused, combining emotional intelligence with the ability to motivate and empower others. You will demonstrate the strategic acumen to design and implement transformation, alongside the practical wisdom to lead a workforce that operates around the clock. Above all, you will care deeply about your people, understand their challenges, and create an environment where they feel valued and supported.

Tertiary qualifications in business management and/or project management (or equivalent) are highly desirable.

Due to the requirements of this role a criminal history and business checks will be undertaken on preferred applicants. A criminal history does not necessarily preclude an applicant from appointment.
