The School of Information and Physical Sciences includes the disciplines of Mathematics, Data Science and Statistics, Physics and Computing and IT. The School’s academics comprise many of the leading researchers within the University of Newcastle; identifying and supporting key concentrations of research strength.

Computing and IT offers courses across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The successful candidate should expect to be involved in all aspects of cross campus and cross institution course delivery.

The Role 

In this role you will:

  • Provide outstanding leadership that fosters staff development and promotes cooperation between the university, government, national and international academia, and industry.
  • Build and lead a research program to attract undergraduate and postgraduate students to the discipline and mentor early career researchers.
  • Attract industry-based research support and competitive external grant funding to the University.
  • Enhance student learning and experience by providing exceptional leadership to staff in delivering a relevant curriculum using contemporary teaching pedagogies (e.g. blended and active learning).

This continuing position is full time and will be located at the Callaghan Campus (Awabakal and Worimi land).

 How will you become part of our community? 

You will have:

  • A strong background in computer science, software engineering, data structures, algorithms, database systems, networking, cybersecurity, and/or other related areas
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, including an ability to engage and motivate students, create effective learning activities, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrated significant record of quality and impactful publication or non-traditional research output in high-quality outlets including evidence of international and national research collaborations.

The remuneration for this position is $196,124 + 17% superannuation.
