About Ruah

Ruah is a leading values-driven employer in Western Australia’s community services sector. Our staff go boldly, not just supporting people in need, but working to end homelessness, end domestic violence and create opportunities for people struggling with poverty and mental health challenges.

Our professional team of operational and corporate services staff is backed by one of WA’s biggest Peer support workforces. Our staff reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion, where difference is valued, celebrated and embraced.

By choosing to work with us, you are helping transform the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.

About the Role

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Recreation Support Coordinator to join our team! As a Recreation Support Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating community-based group activities that provide opportunities for participants to improve their physical health, social connection, and build their confidence, independence, and quality of life.

The role requires experience in both community services and facilitating recreation activities.

Our participants will include people who identify as having mental health challenges and/or challenges with alcohol and other drugs.

The role is primarily based in Fremantle but covers other metro areas. It involves delivering activities that are designed to help our participants progress their personal recovery journeys – think walking groups, cycling, cooking, yoga, gym, swimming, arts and crafts, coffee club, ten pin bowling!

We’re looking for someone who has experience in community service delivery, recreation facilitation and program development. Confidence and personal leadership are a necessity, working alongside our participants, their families, and various stakeholders.

This is a full-time permanent position working 38 hours per week between Monday to Friday.

What we’re looking for

The successful applicants will be required to meet the following criteria:

• Personal goal planning skills that contribute to the achievement of client goals in line with the Model of Care.

• Skills in reflective practice and highly developed report writing using analytical reasoning.

• Advanced computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and client reporting system.

• Ability to engage and maintain professional relationships with clients, and their wider formal and informal supports, with multiple needs and challenges.

• Demonstrated understanding of complex issues facing people who experience chaotic life circumstances such as homelessness, AOD use, family/domestic violence and mental health issues.

• Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, core values and the guiding principles of the organisation.

• Ability to mentor and support staff members, as well as the ability to work independently.

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of diversity and social inclusion- including gender, sexuality, disability, cultural, age, and linguistic diversity and Aboriginal culture.

Relevant qualifications in a related discipline at degree, diploma, or certificate level, or a less formal qualification with related work or lived experience is desirable, but not essential.

What do we offer?

  • A salary aligned with Level 4 of the Ruah Enterprise Agreement (and the SCHADS Award), starting at $88,372.
  • 5 weeks annual leave + 17.5% annual leave loading.
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave, with flexibility to take at 32 weeks half-pay (uniquely, new staff can access 4 weeks paid parental leave after just 6 months’ service).
  • Free, independent and confidential access for you and your direct family to our Employee Assistance Program.
  • Free Ruah-paid Journey Cover (insurance for when you're getting to and from work).
