Join the Research Services team in the Parliamentary Library | Te Pātaka Rangahau and help deliver impartial research and data to members of Parliament, select committees, and parliamentary agencies. Mō te tūnga | About the Role
As a Data Insights Adviser, you will use visual storytelling to transform data into accessible, impartial insights for Parliament. Working closely with the Senior Data Insights Adviser, you’ll design dashboards, maps, and data briefs, maintain reusable templates and datasets, and support responsive research requests. Your work may lean towards geospatial analysis or data visualisation, and you’ll contribute across the team’s priorities.
We’re looking for someone proactive and passionate about turning data into stories that matter.
Ngā haepapa matua | Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver clear, engaging data visuals—dashboards, maps, and briefs—for Parliamentary audiences
- Apply visual storytelling to translate complex findings into accessible, impartial outputs
- Develop and maintain reusable templates, certified datasets, and data tools (Power BI, ArcGIS, M365)
- Support automation and innovation by exploring AI and digital tools to improve workflows
- Contribute to responsive research, knowledge sharing, and a strong customer service ethos
- Build collaborative relationships across the Library and Parliament, supporting a culture of information sharing and continuous improvement
Tō kete | What You Will Bring
- Experience in data visualisation and storytelling, delivering clear and accessible insights
- Ability to collaborate, share knowledge, and contribute to a positive team culture
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across the team and Parliament
- Proficiency with data tools such as Excel, PowerBI, ArcGIS, and M365 (experience with Python, R, SQL, or AI/automation tools is an advantage)
- Understanding of research, analysis, or service delivery in a parliamentary, public sector, or similarly responsive setting
- Initiative, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement
- A relevant tertiary qualification

Please note: This is a full-time role. The salary range for this position is $83,135 - $91,788 per annum, with the potential for the salary to exceed this range based on skills and experience.
We are seeking to fill one Data Insights Advisor position and may consider appointing more than one candidate from this process if suitable applicants are identified.
