How will you make an impact?

As a Legal Counsel at Hostplus, you will be part of a high-functioning and well-respected team within the Risk department. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that Hostplus' legal position is well protected. You will provide practical and commercial legal advice to support the achievement of the Fund’s strategic objectives, review marketing material, and ensure member communications are accurate and meet the Fund’s legal obligations.

The opportunity

Hostplus is seeking a talented individual with experience in financial services and exposure to superannuation to join our dynamic Legal team. This is your opportunity to contribute to the success of one of Australia's leading superannuation funds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing high-quality and timely legal advice to the business, addressing emerging legal issues impacting the Fund
  • Reviewing product disclosure statements, financial services guides, target market determinations and other financial services collateral to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Reviewing member communications, marketing materials and press releases
  • Researching and drafting papers and policies for Board and Committee consideration, under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Legal Counsel or Head of Legal, Governance and Resolutions
  • Developing fact sheets and guidance notes for use by member-facing staff
  • Assisting with the development of, and undertaking, internal staff training sessions and programs
  • Assist managing litigation
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Legal, Governance & Resolutions 

About you

  • Demonstrated experience (2-4PQE) in superannuation (preferred), financial services or financial services.
  • Strong technical legal skills and in-depth knowledge of Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 (Cth) and APRA prudential standards.
  • Current practicing certification
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and qualified to practice law in an Australian jurisdiction.
