Duration: Fixed term contract up until the next quadrennial election in early 2028 with the possibility of extension

Location: Central Ward Office (this role is 5 days in person at the Central Ward office)

This role will include after hours or weekend work by agreement.

Commencement: January 2026

About Central Ward:

Central Ward comprises the Central Business District, Fortitude Valley, New Farm, Spring Hill, Teneriffe, and parts of Bowen Hills and Newstead. Our community is home to some of Brisbane’s most iconic landmarks including Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Brisbane Powerhouse, New Farm Park, Roma St Gardens, Howard Smith Wharves and Brisbane City Hall. Ward Officer

A unique opportunity exists for a highly motivated, customer focused person to join the Central Ward Office as a Ward Officer. As part of a small team, your role will be to ensure the effective administrative operation of the Councillor's Ward Office as well as liaising effectively with the community, residents and other stakeholders in their interactions with Brisbane City Council. Knowledge (or the ability to obtain) of the local landmarks, streets and community groups is desirable but not mandatory.

Key responsibilities:

  • providing high level administrative support including a high standard of customer service in all interactions
  • managing multiple social media platforms including researching and preparing a social media strategy, scheduling posts and content creation (including recording media)
  • assisting with preparing marketing communications, including maintaining website content, creating newsletters (both paper and electronic) and drafting articles for local print publications
  • resolving a variety of complex customer requests and enquiries, with the ability to take detailed information, submit requests and communicate updates and outcome with residents
  • coordinating local community events (as directed by the Councillor), including booking venues and suppliers, coordinating logistics, and executing advertising and promotional activities. Examples include mobile offices, Movies in the Park, new park celebrations.

Key Attributes:

  • demonstrated paid or volunteer experience in managing multiple social media platforms including basic knowledge of content creation
  • proficient in Microsoft Office
  • well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • ability to work both autonomously and as a member of a small team
  • highly developed time management and prioritisation skills
  • experience dealing with sensitive information in a confidential and appropriate manner
  • strong attention to detail and desirable previous experience in database usage
  • willingness to positively contribute to team direction
