Brisbane City Council is Australia’s largest local government, managing assets worth over $39 billion and delivering services that shape the future of our city. We are seeking an experienced executive to lead our Public Space Operations Branch, a critical delivery arm within the Infrastructure Services Group.

The Infrastructure Services Group (ISG) delivers Council’s asset management, planning, design, project management, construction, services, maintenance, and transport operations. Within ISG, Public Space Operations is a service delivery, customer focused and commercially driven business that prides itself on keeping Brisbane’s streets and public spaces clean, green and safe for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.

Manager Trees and Reserves

The Manager Trees and Reserves will lead a team and function within Public Space Operations with the goal to deliver critical maintenance services contributing to the liveability and sustainability of Brisbane and its 750,000 Council street and park trees as well as the maintenance and upkeep of 10,500ha of conservation reserve estate and management of planned burns and fire response activities. The role inspires and leads a multidisciplinary team, delivering high‑risk public‑domain works with precision while championing excellence in safety, environmental performance, and governance to support the residents and visitors to Brisbane. The Manager Trees and Reserves plays a key role in customer-facing service delivery, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement, while also supporting strategic initiatives and special projects at an executive level.

You will bring strong commercial acumen to lead a large and diverse workforce, manage significant budgets, and ensure high‑quality service delivery through disciplined planning and effective resource management. The successful candidate will excel in stakeholder engagement, building strong relationships that drive impactful outcomes for Brisbane City Council. You will have experience leading a geographically dispersed workforce, consistently lifting performance standards, developing the technical and operational capability of staff, and embedding a strong WHS culture across all teams. You will also demonstrate a proven ability to manage multi‑year programs of work—planning, prioritising, and delivering multiple concurrent projects while maintaining a clear focus on quality, efficiency, and long‑term value. This role will involve where necessary the provision of emergency response and recovery operations.

The preferred candidate will have knowledge of, and the ability to apply, the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act.

Tertiary qualifications in business management and/or project management (or equivalent) are highly desirable.

Due to the requirements of this role a criminal history and business checks will be undertaken on preferred applicants. A criminal history does not necessarily preclude an applicant from appointment.
