Our Business
Brisbane City Council is one of Australia’s largest and most diverse local government employers, delivering services that shape the lifestyle, liveability and growth of our city. We offer challenging work, modern technology, and the chance to be part of projects that improve how our community lives, moves and interacts with Brisbane. Council is committed to innovation, sustainability and inclusivity, creating a workplace where people can thrive while contributing to a world‑class city.
Our Branch
The role is transitioning into our Asset Management team, part of Council’s Infrastructure Services Group, which brings together asset management, infrastructure planning, design, project delivery, maintenance and operational services across the city. Asset Management is responsible for the strategic stewardship of all Council‑owned built and natural assets, including roads, stormwater, waterways, buildings, property, electricity services, parks and community assets, ensuring they deliver maximum value for Brisbane’s residents in line with the Brisbane Vision 2031.
As part of this team, you will contribute directly to maintaining accurate spatial asset data that underpins critical planning, operational decision‑making and city‑wide service delivery.
The Role
In this role, you will be responsible for capturing, validating and maintaining Council’s spatial asset information derived from as‑constructed drawings, CAD files and civil plans. You’ll translate these technical artefacts into accurate, standardised GIS features within Council’s ESRI Enterprise environment, ensuring each asset is positioned correctly, attributed accurately and aligned with established schemas and business rules.
You will apply strong analytical skills to interpret complex asset information, resolve data discrepancies, execute quality checks and maintain data integrity across a wide range of asset types. A key component of the role is understanding how different assets relate to one another and how they function across the broader network, enabling you to make informed data capture decisions and recognise the operational implications of accuracy and completeness.
Communication will be central to your success. You’ll engage regularly with engineers, asset custodians, field crews and stakeholders to clarify requirements, validate interpretations and ensure datasets align to business expectations.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys detailed, high‑volume data capture and takes pride in precision, but it also requires a genuine willingness to learn and adapt. The position will be transitioning into a new team, meaning processes, responsibilities and ways of working will continue to evolve. You’ll bring curiosity, flexibility and a proactive approach to navigating change, while contributing to the refinement of workflows and asset data practices as the team defines its long‑term direction.
To be successful you will have:
- sound working knowledge of the ESRI Enterprise suite and ArcGIS Pro for spatial data capture, editing and quality assurance
- experience using relational databases (e.g. Oracle) to store, manage or query spatial and asset‑related information
- strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical information, assess data quality, resolve inconsistencies and apply business rules to produce reliable GIS outputs
- demonstrated organisational skills to manage a steady workflow of capture requests and meet agreed service levels
- customer‑focused communication skills to liaise with engineers, asset custodians and field staff, and to write concise operational notes
- ability to work both collaboratively in a small team and independently when working to a roster or on priority tasks
- adaptability and willingness to learn as the role continues to evolve within a newly formed team
- exposure to utility datasets and asset management concepts, with interest in progressing into asset‑management‑oriented GIS work
- tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or membership of a relevant professional organisation (desirable but not essential)
- optional exposure to SAP or similar asset management systems (desirable but not essential)
Benefits of working for Council include:
- flexible working hours, and flexible arrangements
- free gym and wellness centre
- award winning superannuation fund
