Our Branch
City Legal is a specialist provider of legal services to Brisbane City Council and its subsidiary companies. We provide a comprehensive range of in-house cost-effective legal services, adding value to Council’s core business and major projects. In this role you will report to the Senior Legal Counsel - Litigation Risk & Enforcement and will work with an experienced and supportive group of solicitors while making a positive difference to the City of Brisbane and its people.

The Role
As the Senior Solicitor Litigation, Risk and Enforcement you will provide high quality, professional legal advice with respect to legislation, subordinate legislation and Council’s Local Laws, including workplace relations issues, land acquisition and compensation issues. You will utilise your extensive knowledge of Queensland's Human Rights Act 2019, Industrial Relations Act 2016 and Council’s current practises and enterprise agreement to provide advice to senior executives and other stakeholders across Council. The successful candidate will be required to manage and conduct cases and represent Brisbane City Council in all courts and tribunals.
To be successful you will have:
- demonstrated ability to provide specialist legal advice with respect to legislation, subordinate legislation and Council’s Local Laws, workplace relations issues ( including disciplinary and discrimination issues) and significant issues relevant to local government.
- ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment providing professional guidance, mentoring and encouragement to staff working in partnership with the Senior Legal Counsel, Legal Counsels and other Solicitors
- comprehensive knowledge of relevant case law and legislation, with specific reference to the Local Government environment
- highly developed communication, organisational and prioritisation skills to manage conflicting deadlines
- demonstrated experience in the management and conduct of an extensive case list in relevant Courts and Tribunals which may include the Supreme Court, the District Court, the Magistrates Court, the Planning and Environment Court, the Land Court, the Industrial Commissions and the Human Rights Commission and the QCAT
- been admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and hold a current Practising Certificate from the Queensland Law Society
