The Role

As one of our Strategic Finance Business Partners, you will step into a newly created, influential role where you’ll be a trusted financial partner to Group Executives and their leadership teams. You’ll play a central part in shaping the strategic direction of both the business and our city, using your financial expertise to provide insightful analysis, expert advice, and actionable recommendations that drive high-impact decisions. Your work will ensure that finance and operations are seamlessly integrated, enabling smart and responsible budget management that supports Council’s priorities and enhances performance across all levels.

There are three Strategic Finance Business Partner roles available. They will be allocated to each group based on skills, experience and demonstrated understanding of the relevant business areas within each Group. The Groups these roles will support are:

  • Public Transport Services
  • Infrastructure Services
  • Corporate Services and Governance and Legal Services

  To be successful you will have:

  • demonstrated evidence of capabilities in Council’s Leadership Blueprint to deliver performance excellence and a values-based culture
  • extensive practical experience in the effective delivery of financial and managerial accounting services including business planning, budgeting, forecasting, analysis and reporting
  • highly developed business and commercial acumen with an excellent ability achieve effective results in a complex and evolving organisation
  • proven ability to influence and shape strategic direction through thought leadership and effective management styles
  • highly developed interpersonal skills with an exceptional ability to negotiate, consult, coordinate, and communicate effectively across all levels of staff and management
  • exceptional analytical, research and problem-solving skills including developing, reviewing, analysing, and presenting financial and program information
  • proven success in building and nurturing a high performing team in a matrix style reporting structure.
