About the team
Group Tax is the central function responsible for tax governance, risk management and complex tax advisory across Wesfarmers’ diverse portfolio of businesses.
The team partners closely with divisional finance and tax teams and senior leaders, supporting major transactions and commercial decision‑making whilst upholding Wesfarmers’ commitment to conservative tax management and transparency.
What you’ll do
Within this role you will act as the conduit between tax law, business operations and governance, and work to ensure the Group meets its tax obligations, while supporting informed commercial decision‑making. Naturally, you will also play a part in protecting the Group’s reputation and licence to operate.
Working with others in Group Tax, and the Group Taxation Manager, you will:
- Assist with the preparation, review and lodgement of the Wesfarmers Group’s income tax returns, both in Australia and globally
- Provide detailed technical analysis and insights for tax and commercial stakeholders, including involvement in merger and acquisition activities
- Undertake contract and documentation reviews
- Assist with ATO information requests and administration
About you
We are seeking a curious, self-motivated, creative and high-integrity individual with sophisticated tax technical and research skills, and the ability to demonstrate sound commercial judgement.
Ideally you will arrive with:
- Your CA qualification
- A degree in Commerce, Law or a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of federal tax laws, with some knowledge of state tax laws
- Well-developed technical expertise which has been gained through exposure to a wide variety of income tax and other tax matters within a large advisory firm and / or similar in-house corporate environment
- Ability to adopt a pragmatic and level-headed approach to ensure a quick turnaround when providing advice and support to our businesses
- Exceptional research, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication capabilities, process management and influencing ability
- A strong capability to work well in teams and also autonomously as required
- A passion to learn and develop new skills
