We are currently seeking a 2x Safety & Health Supervisor to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the H & S Superintendent, the Safety & Health Supervisor will be responsible to oversee, lead and manage all activities related to maintaining an effective and efficient Health and Safety Management System that supports the site achieve successful implementation of HSE management system requirements This is an exciting time to join Simberi & St Barbara as we embark on our “Building Brilliance” journey to transform the business and deliver sustainable value

The Opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Leads in HSE programs and engagement within the team and across site.
  • Drives and influences proactive safety behaviours within the team and across site in effective engagement.
  • Ensure all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements.
  • Plans work so that it can be conducted safely; and consider environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
  • Manage and coordinate Health and Safety activities to ensure the operation is productive with high level of health and safety outcome.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and relevant industry standards of practice.
  • Ensure continuous evaluation of the HSE aspects of equipment and services.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of HSE management practices.
  • Develop team members through regular feedback and formal training.
  • Make appropriate decisions in line with best work practices in Health and Safety management and working as a team.
  • To be able to work in a team with effective management skills/techniques.
  • Take an active role in imparting experience, skills, and knowledge to team members.
  • Creates opportunities for people to work together to enable contribute to the business and learn from each other.

  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Training and Development of the team

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Tertiary qualifications related to or relevant to the role.
  • Relevant Industry certificate or diploma in WHS
  • An excellent knowledge of Emergency response and Mine Rescue
  • At least 6 years relevant Mining Industry experience with 3 years in a supervisor or Leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience and competence in leading teams.
  • A good knowledge of the Mine Industry and operations
  • An understanding of competency-based training and assessment
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building; conflict resolution & training
  • Current PNG Drivers Class 6 License
  • Knowledge of statutory training/assessment requirements
  • Demonstrated high level of computer literacy (MS Office, TMS, Pronto, INX, HSE management systems)

Desirable

  • Cert IV Workplace Health & Safety
