About the role
We have a permanent opportunity based in Leederville for a highly experienced and strategic technical expert to join our Information & Technology Group as the Principal – SCADA Standards. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and ongoing optimisation of Operational Technology HMI software design standards across the organisation. As a senior technical leader, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the future of our Operational Technology capabilities and ensuring consistency and excellence across our systems.
What the role will involve
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SCADA and Operator Interface Panel HMI software design standards and standard designs.
- Provide strategic direction on HMI technologies and ensure alignment with Water Corporation’s OT architecture.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent application of standards across asset creation, operations, maintenance, and optimisation.
- Represent Water Corporation on industry forums including the WSAA SCADA Standards working group and collaborate with other utilities across WA.
- Lead and contribute to the development of OT strategic and tactical plans, ensuring best-practice approaches and the adoption of HMI emerging technologies.
- Support capability uplift by mentoring internal teams and sharing knowledge on evolving SCADA and HMI trends.
- Drive innovation through evaluation and trialling of new HMI solutions and related technologies.
Key skills and experience
- A relevant degree qualification with extensive experience in SCADA HMI systems, architectures, and deployments.
- Deep expertise in SCADA graphics design, human factors in SCADA, OIP’s, and alarm management systems.
- Strong knowledge of SCADA HMI standards, Abnormal Situation Management (ASM), ISA18.1 alarm management, and cyber safety practices in OT.
- Experience in technical report writing, advisory engagement, and presentation delivery at national levels.
- A collaborative and influential communication style with the ability to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
- Desirable: prior experience within the water or utilities industry, and familiarity with Schneider GeoSCADA and Operator Interface Panel systems.
