About the role
As a Controller in our Operations team, you will form an integral part of our Integrated Operations business unit where you will be responsible for remotely controlling, monitoring and optimising water schemes in accordance with operating plans. Additional responsibilities will include investigating, analysing, and implementing operating solutions to unplanned operating events. Being at the front and centre of service delivery offers an exciting opportunity to join the Water Corporation and develop your knowledge and understanding of our Water Operations team.
This Fixed Term Contract opportunity involves shiftwork, including a significant amount of after-hours work including nights, weekends, and public holidays. Rosters are subject to change, but could involve working 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off: or 4 days on, 4 days off rosters, with 12-hour shifts.
This position attracts an annual shift allowance of up to 48.11% (depending on your shift pattern).
You are also entitled to 5 weeks paid annual leave for each year of service as this is a shift position.

What you can expect with this role
- Operate, monitor, and optimise water schemes in accordance with operating plans provided by scheme planners.
- Independently diagnose water scheme and asset faults and initiate corrective action and/or devise solutions to maintain service.
- Analyse hydraulic, water quality and energy data feeds to proactively identify abnormal operating modes and initiate the first response.
- Identify and escalate significant operational events as incidents in accordance with the Corporate Incident Management Process.
- Participate in the operational response to incidents of varying complexity and severity.
- Provide operational information and reporting as required for corporation or external stakeholders.
- Provide a high-quality customer experience for the Corporation’s customers through the provision of accurate and professional advice on a broad range of customer enquiries.
Your skills and experience
For this role, we are looking for great talent with:
- Diploma qualification in an appropriate Engineering discipline OR a Trade Certificate in an appropriate discipline.
- Relevant experience in operations and maintenance in a service utility.
- Relevant field practice experience in operations, maintenance, construction, water and wastewater treatment, water quality, environmental protection, occupational health and safety.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and negotiate successful outcomes with stakeholders of all levels.
- Relevant attributes to work in a 24 x 7 control room environment is desirable but not essential.
- Demonstrated competence in the use of MS Office products such as Word and Excel.
