Are you an organised and proactive professional looking for a diverse role in a supportive and vibrant team? The School of Law and Justice is seeking a dynamic Executive and Project Assistant to provide high-level executive, administrative and project support to the Head of School and School Executive Team.

The Role

You’ll work directly with the Dean, Head of School and report to the School Executive Officer, and collaborate closely with a small, tight-knit team in the day-to-day operations of the School by:

  • Executive Assistant to the Head of School – managing diaries, coordinating meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, and providing policy and procedural advice.
  • Supporting the School’s Executive Team – including projects and initiatives led by the Deputy Head of School (Research) and coordinating School events and committee servicing.
  • Managing communications, coordinating and managing travel arrangements for the school, and assisting with research administration and website updates.
  • Contributing to operational improvement initiatives and engaging in cross-functional collaboration within the university.

This is a multifaceted role that will suit someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and enjoys working with a variety of stakeholders.

We’re seeking someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience providing high-level executive or administrative support to senior leaders.
  • Outstanding organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • High levels of discretion, professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality.

This continuing position is full time at a HEW 5 Higher Education Level located at NUSpace Campus in Newcastle CBD.

About the Unit  

The School of Law and Justice is Australia’s leading clinical law school. Our academic staff are world- class professionals, who are researching across various fields of legal endeavour, including environmental law, family and child law, health law, criminal law and evidence, international law, commercial and corporate law, environmental law, torts, dispute resolution, workplace health and safety law and legal education. The School of Law and Justice now incorporates the discipline of Criminology with the academic staff in this discipline researching across gendered crime, miscarriages of justice and true crime, forensic evidence evaluation, digital surveillance and institutional accountability, policing and vulnerable populations.

  1. Completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of an associate diploma and at least 2 years subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  2. Demonstrated performance in a high-level administrative or project role in a dynamic and fast paced customer service environment, incorporating the support of Executive staff. 
  3. Highly developed interpersonal skills including the ability to participate in a team environment demonstrating clear communication and mutual respect.
  4. Demonstrated experience in taking ownership and driving innovation, process improvement and contributing to overall corporate operations.
  5. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills to manage priorities, deliver work objectives accurately and on time, and manage competing demands from a range of stakeholders.
  6. Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.
