The Role

As the Risk Business Support Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the operations of the Risk team within the Governance and Assurance Services Unit. Reporting to the Director of Risk Services, you’ll assist in the delivery of high-quality advice, data analysis, and administrative support across the University's risk, insurance, and business continuity programs.

This is a broad and dynamic role that supports all team functions from an administrative and operational perspective. You will manage a high-volume insurance inbox, assist in claims and renewal processes, support the development of risk reports and papers, and engage in university-wide risk and business continuity planning activities.

Key responsibilities include:

Preparing reports, presentations, policies, and operational documentation to support risk and insurance functions.

  • Assisting with insurance administration, including claims management, data collection, and support for annual renewals.
  • Providing logistical and coordination support for business continuity planning and incident response activities.
  • Maintaining risk registers, internal systems, and training records to ensure data integrity and process compliance.
  • Assisting with the preparation of reports for executive and governance committees.
  • Building productive relationships with internal stakeholders and external providers such as insurance brokers.

What you’ll bring

To succeed in this role, you’ll be:

  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, especially in preparing documentation, analysing data, and supporting risk-related reporting.
  • A confident communicator, able to liaise professionally with internal teams, executives, and external vendors.
  • Experienced working in a risk, insurance, or highly regulated environment, where confidentiality, sound judgement, and discretion are critical.
  • Proactive and collaborative, able to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience supporting a risk-based function, including insurance, business continuity, or compliance, will be highly regarded.

This continuing position is full time at a HEW 5 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus. It will appeal to someone who enjoys working behind the scenes to ensure successful, compliant, and risk-informed outcomes.

  1. Previous administrative experience working in an insurance environment, higher education or in a highly regulated industry
  2. Demonstrated strong and effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal and networking skills.
  3. High level of proficiency in standard software systems including Microsoft products.
  4. Familiarity with, or proven ability to gain an understanding in, corporate software packages including TRIM
  5. Demonstrated analytical and problem identification skills.

  7. Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines and with competing priorities.
  8. Demonstrated capacity to work independently and within a team environment.
  9. Ability and willingness to maintain a high level of confidentiality and ethical conduct in relation to sensitive information.
  10. Demonstrated knowledge of workplace obligations to, and experience in leading and cultivating workplace practices and behaviours that promote, support and maintain a safe, healthy, equitable, diverse and respectful workplace; including responding appropriately to adverse accidents, incidents, behaviours, issues, reports and the like.
