Summary:

Reporting to the Program Manager, Field Deployments, the Process Engineering Team Lead will coordinate with various departments to lead process engineering and modelling activities. This is a supervisory role, overseeing and leading a small team of process engineers.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with field deployments, marketing, business development, product development, and R&D for process engineering and modelling requests.
  • Prioritize, assign delegate, and supervise the process engineering group to complete the work requests from internal and external clients.
  • Work with the team to assemble, build, commission and operate a pre-commercial plant producing hydrogen using a novel methane pyrolysis process.
  • Work with the team for process development of full scale commercial hydrogen facilities.
  • Lead process engineering and modelling activities
  • Ensure that the pre-commercial plant meets specific design criteria, is built to specification, and operates at or above process KPI’s. Integrate process findings from the PMP test system into the pilot plant design.
  • Provide guidance to build upon existing PMP Aspen Model.
  • Lead process modelling studies and consider process configuration options.
  • Update and generate PFD’s and P&ID’s.
  • Facilitate process hazard analyses, and process selection studies.
  • Calculate sizing of pressure safety devices.
  • Select or develop design standards to guide the team.
  • As part of a team, help develop novel new reactor and system concepts from the ground up for current and future generation product offerings.
  • Supervise and provide guidance and training to all direct reports
  • Complete performance reviews, conduct regular 1:1 check-ins, review and approve timesheets and time off requests by direct reports
  • Develop operations plans and enforce safe work practices.
  • Other relevant duties


You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering; Master’s degree is an asset
  • 10+ years of industrial expertise
  • 3+ years experience leading a team, an asset
  • Strong background in mass and energy balances - PFDs, and P&IDs
  • Proficiency with HYSYS, Aspen Plus and other related process simulation software
  • Proficiency with process engineering codes and standards such as API 520, 521, 2000, etc.
  • Experience participating in HAZOPs and sizing of pressure safety devices.
  • Previous experience with pilot plant and/or industrial-scale commissioning and start-up is an asset.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal; ability to present results and actionable priorities in front of a group of peers and write reports.
  • Detail oriented mindset.
  • Previous industrial chemical process scale-up and commercialization expertise.
  • Exceptional problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Professional Engineering designation or working towards obtaining it.
  • Leadership abilities to coach and mentor more junior process engineers
