Job Description
The Electronics Engineer will join the navigation systems team on new construction projects at our Client's Shipyards. Under the direction of the Senior Navigation Systems Engineer at our Client's Shipyards the Electronics Engineer participates in all phases of new construction design projects including requirements decomposition, design, analysis, material specification and selection, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities. This role is also responsible for liaison with internal and external partner design teams to ensure that the Electronics design is produced in accordance with the current equipment information and the production design standards and procedures.
Duties/Accountabilities
- Provides engineering and design expertise in assigned areas of Electronics by preparing design packages to ensure contract design requirements are met.
- Develops and/or reviews design documents for Canadian Coast Guard vessels in order to achieve customer, Classification Society and regulatory approval.
- Develops material specifications and bills of material in accordance with material strategies and customer requirements.
- Provide technical direction to suppliers and subcontractors related to the Electronics Systems design to achieve contract, cost and schedule performance.
Education and Skills
- Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 2 or more years of experience in a system engineering environment, ideally in the defense or shipbuilding industry.
- Experience working with Classification societies (LR, DNV) design approval process.
- Knowledgeable of Marine regulations such as IMO, Transport Canada requirements and other ship design safety regulations.
- Experience with Navigation system verification test planning for Factory Acceptance Testing and trials onboard vessels.
- Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.
- EGBC registration as EIT or P.Eng required for ‘Engineer II’ title otherwise title will be ‘Specialist II’.
- Able to obtain a Canadian Reliability security clearance.
Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
- Great collaborative skills and motivation to frequently conduct team work.
- Analyze, define, and maintain customer, system and regulatory requirements in a system engineering life cycle tool for Marine Navigation systems.
- Based on requirements, develop a Navigation system design, that also satisfies various build, cost, schedule, logistics and other non-technical constraints.
- Analyze a Navigation system design from various perspectives, such as reliability, safety, security, buildability, and maintainability.
- Using system engineering processes verify and validate a Navigation system design (e.g. via documentation, testing, analysis, etc.)
- Tackle and investigate various complex Navigation system issues.
- Build and maintain technical documentation and strict configuration control of a Navigation system.
- Background in ships navigation equipment such as radars, ECDIS and Integrated Navigation System.
- Previous background on ocean going vessels is a plus.
- Installation and commissioning of Navigation systems on ships.
- Specify and maintain hardware lists to support Navigation system designs, looking after various related issues, such as End-of-Life replacement, installation, and qualification.
- Support and develop technical interfaces to other groups within the company.
- Prepare and implement design reviews in accordance with a system engineering process.
- Analytical skills to capture and analyze data, confirming its accuracy and adequacy as an integral part of the collective analysis process.
- Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
- Good understanding of 3D design software, especially CADMATIC or AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to stay organized in a dynamic environment
Pay rate: $36 - $42 per hour, depending on experience
