Our client is a leading energy utility that generates, purchases, distributes and sells electricity. They are currently looking for a Financial Professional – CPA or CFA for their Burnaby location.


Overview

The Finance Professional oversees the preparation of financial reports, provides strategic business advice, decision support, and leads the development of annual budgets and periodic forecast updates accurately and on time for one or more business units at client


Role Accountabilities

  • Complete the Finance review of funding requests for projects and contract items that require executive approval.
  • Complete Finance review memos for funding requests and contract items with an appropriate balance between timeliness, comprehensiveness and accuracy. Complete the memos within an acceptable timeframe.
  • Work with the planning and delivery teams to strengthen or clarify the funding requests while striking the appropriate balance between requesting changes to funding requests and leaving information “as is”.
  • Develop and review NPV models.
  • Provide advice and guidance on accounting items with regards to capitalization.
  • Review documents (such as business cases)
  • Support funding requests for capital projects.
  • Review of the business case is to make sure the issues are clearly explained, justifications for the investment are sound, alternatives are discussed and properly supported, and the project and funding request are in compliance with client’s financial policy and project management practices.
  • Work with the project teams to strengthen and clarify the funding requests.
  • Conduct accounting review to determine the accounting treatment for the costs included in the funding request (i.e. capital vs. operating expense).
  • The deliverable of accounting review is a briefing memo (typically 3 to 5 pages) summarizing what has been reviewed and any key issues identified.


Education and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business , Finance, or other related discipline
  • CPA designation OR CFA is also acceptable
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in progressively more responsible financial role
  • Strong communication skills, with a major emphasis on written skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting practices and principals.
