Job Description

The Electronics Engineer III is responsible for Electronics engineering on new construction projects. Under the direction of the Senior Electronics Engineer of Science & Sonar Systems the Electronics Engineer III participates in all phases of new construction design projects including: requirements decomposition, design preparations, supporting analysis, equipment selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities. This role is also responsible for liaison with internal and external partner design teams to ensure that the Electronics design is produced in accordance with the current equipment information and the production design standards and procedures.


This position has the following special requirements:

  • The candidate will be joining our Science & Sonar Systems team thus preference to candidates with familiarity of marine sonar equipment.  
  • Full-time onsite, desk based, producing technical documentation, with occasional hands-on equipment troubleshooting at the land-based test site


Duties/Accountabilities

  • Provides engineering and design expertise in assigned areas of Electronics by preparing design and calculation packages to ensure contract design requirements are met.
  • Supports the Manager, Electronic Systems Engineering, by providing mentorship and guidance to other junior engineers or contractors.
  • Develops and/or reviews design documents to achieve customer, Classification Society and regulatory approval.
  • Develops material specifications and bills of material in accordance with material strategies and customer requirements.
  • Provide technical direction to suppliers and subcontractors related to the Electronics Systems design to achieve contract, cost and schedule performance.
  • Represents the company to industry with an understanding of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS)

 

Education and Skills

  • Degree in a relevant field is required. Professional Engineering Designation required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a systems engineering environment.
  • Experience working with a diverse integrated project team.
  • Must be able to obtain a reliability security clearance.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • Analyze, define and maintain customer, system and regulatory requirements in a system engineering life cycle tool for ship electronic systems.
  • Familiarity with the project lifecycle including technical requirements drafting, design products, system integration, change management and acceptance testing.
  • Based on technical requirements, develop system designs which also satisfy various build, cost, schedule, logistics and other non-technical constraints.
  • Analyze system designs from various perspectives, such as reliability, security, buildability, maintainability, and more.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation under strict configuration control.
  • Specify and maintain hardware lists to support system design, taking care of various related issues, such as End-of-Life replacement, installation, qualification, etc.
  • Support and develop technical interfaces to other technical teams.
  • Prepare and execute design reviews in accordance with a system engineering process.
  • Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Solid understanding of CADMATIC or AutoCAD software, document management systems and databases.
  • Committed to a high standard of safety and able to align with all safety laws and all the employer's safety policies and rules.
  • Exercise good judgments and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
