Term: 6 month contract (then conversion to permanent employee)

Location: North Vancouver, BC


About the Role:

We’re looking for a talented Detail Designer / Drafter to join our innovative team working on complex marine projects. You’ll contribute directly to production by creating and updating 3D models and technical drawings that support fabrication and installation. This role involves developing spool, fabrication, and installation drawings for HVAC ducting and outfitting equipment such as metal furniture, along with preparing bills of materials and installation documentation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Drafting: Develop detailed 2D and 3D designs, including fabrication ready detail drawings (e.g. spool ducts, louvers, goosenecks, and metal furniture), installation layout arrangements and nested cutting files.
  • Fabrication Drawings: Ensure drawings meet standards for manufacturability, scale, dimensional accuracy, tolerances, materials, and specifications.
  • Material Take-offs: Conduct accurate material take-offs for fabrication based on the model and project requirements.
  • Customer & Team Collaboration: Interpret client specifications, contribute to design solutions, and communicate clearly with clients and internal teams to solve design or production issues.
  • Design Revisions: Update models, drawings and documentation based on design changes, feedback from engineering, or site requirements.
  • Support & Flexibility: Perform site support and adapt to additional tasks or changes as needed to meet project deadlines and quality standards.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 1-2+ years of hands-on experience in 3D modelling and drafting
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical training in mechanical design and computer-aided drafting (2D/3D)
  • Experience in shipbuilding and fabrication preferred

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Cadmatic 3D (preferred) and Autodesk Inventor
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD LT and standard office tools (MS Office)

Industry Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with marine HVAC design, outfitting equipment, and spatial constraints onboard ships
  • Understanding of classification society requirements (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong technical accuracy and attention to detail
  • Hands-on, collaborative approach in a manufacturing setting
  • Clear communicator to both production and project tea
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
