Your opportunity:

The Senior Automation & Orchestration Engineer owns the end-to-end orchestration, automation and operational reliability of Customer Experience data platforms.

This role is the technical authority for workflow orchestration across ingestion, transformation and data warehousing layers. It ensures that data processing chains operate reliably at scale while continuously improving architecture, automation coverage and platform resilience.

Unlike monitoring-focused automation roles, this position is responsible for designing, deploying, operating and evolving orchestration frameworks and data processing pipelines that underpin customer experience intelligence systems.

You'll make impact by:

End-to-End Orchestration Ownership

• Design and own orchestration frameworks for data pipelines
• Manage complex workflow dependencies, scheduling strategies and execution logic using tools such as Airflow
• Ensure reliability, idempotency, retry mechanisms and failure recovery across pipelines

Data Processing & Platform Automation

• Design, optimise and maintain transformation and processing jobs (e.g., Glue jobs or equivalent)
• Collaborate on data warehouse performance and modelling optimisation (e.g. Redshift or similar)
• Ensure ingestion flows (e.g., MFT and batch sources) integrate reliably into processing chains

Platform Deployment & Lifecycle Management

• Deploy, version and maintain orchestration and processing components across environments
• Implement CI/CD practices for pipeline deployment
• Manage platform evolution as data volumes, sources and business logic change

Operational Reliability & Incident Resolution

• Own the operational health of data pipelines and workflow engines
• Investigate and resolve complex pipeline failures and performance issues
• Implement monitoring, alerting and observability for orchestration layers
• Drive systemic improvements from recurring incidents

Architecture, Optimisation & Continuous Improvement

• Perform deep analysis of workflow performance, processing patterns and failure trends to identify systemic optimisation opportunities
• Identify inefficiencies in data processing processes and design automation strategies to eliminate manual steps and operational friction
• Identify architectural bottlenecks and propose improvements in pipeline design and orchestration patterns
• Reduce manual intervention through automation and workflow standardisation
• Contribute to scalability, resilience and performance of the platform

Framework & Engineering Practices

• Contribute to the design of reusable orchestration patterns and standardised pipeline frameworks
• Apply software engineering discipline to workflow development
• Ensure solutions are both fit for purpose and fit for operational use

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical guidance to engineers working on data pipelines
• Establish best practices for orchestration, job design and workflow reliability
• Act as escalation point for complex orchestration issues

What you’ll bring:

• Strong experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow)
• Experience designing and operating production data pipelines
• Experience with data processing frameworks (e.g., AWS Glue or equivalent)
• Experience with data warehouses (e.g., Redshift or similar)
• Experience managing data ingestion flows (e.g., MFT, batch or API integrations)
• Strong scripting capability (Python preferred) for workflow logic, data manipulation and automation
• Experience implementing monitoring and observability for pipelines
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capability
• Strong analytical mindset for system optimisation

Ideally, you will also have:

• Experience with cloud-based data platforms
• Experience with ETL/ELT architectures and data lake patterns
• Exposure to telecom or large operational datasets
• Experience implementing CI/CD for data pipelines
