This opportunity

Reporting to the Field Operations Team Leader, the Field Technician will be involved in the installation, operation, maintenance (including investigation and repair of faults) and administration of all telecommunications equipment and fibre/copper wireline network installed in the company's national network. 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain & deploy end to end network & customer solutions unsupervised.
  • Focus on the installation, operation, FLM maintenance (including investigation and repair of faults) and administration of all telecommunications equipment and fibre/copper wireline network installed in the company's national network. 
  • Inspect and perform quality appraisal on contractors’ installations, as well as conduct audit/SLM visits to Mega-Pop, Metro/Regional Pop’s additionally remote Inter-Capital Regen’s and Radio CEVs.
  • Liaise with other telecommunications carriers, equipment suppliers’ technical assistance centres and building managers.
  • Provide assistance and technical support to internal customers.
  • Attend after-hours and perform remote/rural support work activities as required, primarily across Queensland, Northern Territory & Northern NSW.
  • Participate in the on call roster to provide 24x7 coverage of datacentre, network and customer faults.
  • Identify improvement opportunities within the team, as well as ensure appropriate controls are in place to manage risks, including the protection of TPG Telecom’s systems and information.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing workplace conditions and emergency response deployment.
  • Ensure familarity with policies and procedures, as well as completing any associated training including inter-state & external as communicated or made available on the intranet and our learning systems. 

Knowledge and experience

  • Certificate III in Telecommunications or similar.
  • ACMA open cabling license (Structured and Optical endorsement will be required).
  • Industry experience within the electrical and communications industry will be highly regarded – specifically working within data centres, colocation space, AC and DC power distribution systems, UPS, and computer room air conditioning plant.
  • Extensive knowledge of copper and fibre cable installations, standard (ACMA) and Low Impact installation under the Telecommunications Act.
  • Cisco accreditation CCNA recommended.
  • Exposure to Cisco (CRS, 7609, 7206, 10K and 3750 series), Huawei (Metro and OSN series) and Alcatel-Lucent Multi-service Edge equipment.
  • High-level computer, Microsoft and engineering application experience centered on telecommunication applications.
  • Strong communication skills with a professional and presentable attitude.
  • Full clean driver’s license.
