Cultural Engagement Coordinator – 1800RESPECT

Telstra Health is proud to work collaboratively with the Australian Government and specialist partners in preparation for the delivery of 1800RESPECT from 1 July 2022, as the national front door for people experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) and workplace sexual harassment (WSH). 

Vision: to achieve a significant reduction across the Australian community in the prevalence and impacts of domestic, family and sexual violence, including workplace sexual harassment - by improving first response processes, national sector integration, service reach and responsiveness to diverse groups; by strengthening community engagement; and by continuous enhancement of staff skills and technology.

Mission: to deliver a free, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week national service that provides information, counselling support and referrals to people experiencing, or at risk of, domestic, family and sexual violence, including workplace sexual harassment.

Purpose: to provide an accessible, high quality, clinically informed and evidence-based service that meets the diverse needs and complex considerations of individuals seeking support.

 

About the role

The role of Cultural Engagement Coordinator is to enable the delivery of a high quality, culturally safe service, by working closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders to inform the development, maintenance and improvement of services to meet the needs of priority groups. This role works with a broad range of stakeholders (organisations and individuals) in a culturally appropriate way, to ensure that the needs of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) groups, and hard to reach groups, are addressed through the design and development of the service. 

The Cultural Engagement Coordinator will help us achieve a sustained reduction across the Australian community in the prevalence and impacts of DFSV through:

 

Stakeholder Engagement:

You will plan and deliver stakeholder engagement activities that are culturally safe, culturally appropriate, and target the needs of CALD groups. 

You will seek feedback from CALD groups on their experience of using the service, and providing feedback to the service, to inform continuous improvement.

You will provide advice and support to others in the team and across the 1800RESPECT Program, on how to engage with specific groups in an effective and culturally sensitive way.

You will support client organisations with culturally safe and sensitive engagement

You will ensure hard to reach groups are engaged effectively, such as Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and Torres Strait Islander Led Organisations.   

You will facilitate provider onboarding to the 1800RESPECT service provider directory 

 

About you

·      Demonstrated capacity to identify culturally responsive and appropriate referral pathways. 

·      Sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal, non-Aboriginal, CALD and specialist services relevant to support the 1800RESPECT program

·      Thorough and specialised understanding of DFSV and WPSH

·      High level of knowledge of First Nation service providers that support DVFV and WPSH across Australia

·      Experience/understanding of rural and remote DFSV and WPSH service providers and their challenges. 

 

Additional requirements 

·      A university degree in social work; psychology; human services or similar, or a combination of education and experience that would be considered equivalent.
