What’s the opportunity?

Telstra Health is seeking a skilled People & Culture Partner with specialised expertise in workplace relations to support our ongoing commitment to a compliant, inclusive, and high-performing workplace. This role will support our leaders by promoting fair and consistent people practices while helping to strengthen organisational capability and culture. You will act as a trusted advisor to leaders, providing strategic and operational support across complex employment matters. Working closely with senior leaders and the broader People & Culture team, you will play a key role in supporting organisational effectiveness and mitigating risk.

As the People and Culture Partner within the Corporate & Shared Services function, this role is pivotal in delivering expert employee relations advice, support, and case management on a broad range of employee relations matters to people leaders. This includes performance management, grievances, misconduct, workplace investigations, and complaints in line with Australian employment law, industrial instruments and Telstra Health policies and procedures.

About the role:

Serving as the first point of contact for employee relations issues across Telstra Health, the Workplace Relations Partner provides timely and accurate advice to people leaders and employees on employee relations issues, including Fair Work Act 2009 obligations, Award interpretation, Enterprise Agreements, and company policies. The key accountabilities include:

People Partnering

  • Work collaboratively with Senior People and Culture Partner to ensure a cohesive, consistent and sound approach to managing HR requirements across Telstra Health
  • Receive guidance and advice from Senior People and Culture Partner when support is required to manage stakeholders
  • Deliver support and guidance to people leaders and employees across a range of HR matters including performance management, recruitment, employment conditions, workplace behaviour, workplace health and safety and employee development.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and training related to employee conduct and workplace expectations.
  • Work closely with other members of the P&C team to ensure a cohesive approach to employee relations support and initiatives.
  • Share insights and best practices with colleagues to enhance overall employee relations effectiveness and employee satisfaction.
  • Engage in joint problem-solving efforts to address complex employee relations issues and improve organisational culture.

Workplace Relations Partnering

  • Work collaboratively with Senior People and Culture Partner to ensure a cohesive, consistent and sound approach to managing employee relations requirements across Telstra Health.
  • Receive guidance and advice from Senior People and Culture Partner when support is required to manage stakeholders.
  • Case management of low-to-medium risk level employee relations matters including conflict resolution, disciplinary processes, performance management frameworks, misconduct investigations, termination procedures, redundancy planning and grievances, ensuring compliance with company policies and employment laws whilst minimising organisational risk.
  • Support and guide leaders through performance management and disciplinary processes, ensuring procedural fairness and compliance with best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Global Case Management (GCM) team within Telstra Corporation on all employee relations matters to ensure process consistency.
  • Partner with people leaders to provide quality and accurate advice, guidance, coaching and support so they can effectively manage a range of sensitive employee relations matters in their teams.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of employee relations matters and ensure proper documentation of all cases.
  • Help to develop and deliver training sessions and capability-building programs for people leaders on key ER topics (e.g., conducting difficult conversations, managing underperformance) that assists in managing their team/s.
  • Advise on the complexities of different entitlements and how they interplay in shift work/overtime and penalties broadly to remove any underpayment risk or exposure 
  • Prepare briefs for internal stakeholders on employee relations issues, including the implications for organisational policy, practice or procedures.
  • Track and analyse employee relations data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support workforce change initiatives, including restructures and organisational development.

About you:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, Human Resources or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of ER/IR related advice, guidance and support to people leaders and employees.
  • Experience in managing grievances, disputes, and complex employee relations cases.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and influence leaders with confidence and discretion.
  • A strong understanding of the application of employment legislation, Awards and industrial relations frameworks.
  • Demonstrated excellence in HR service delivery and ensuring business compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in HR software (Oracle experience is highly desirable).
  • Strong understanding of HR principles and contemporary best practices.
  • Ability to analyse issues and provide effective solutions in a timely manner.
