In 2026, we’re looking for 2 Student Planners to join our team.

About the role:

This role will give you the opportunity to learn more about how the Australian and NSW planning processes impact utility providers and how good agency collaboration is vital to support thriving, liveable and sustainable cities.

You will learn new skills and put into practice those covered at university: participate in concurrence and referrals, carry out technical reviews, and build use of spatial mapping and process skills.

What you will be doing:

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to coordinate responses to planning authorities on developments including planning proposals and development applications including State Significant Developments.
  • Liaise with Councils and DPHI representatives on land development matters affecting Sydney Water.
  • Analyse and interpret data from a range of sources including planning proposals, development applications, market intelligence, land use rezoning and government strategies and plans, to produce useful intelligence and growth trends.
  • Identify, develop and implement process improvement opportunities to improve the referral process.

About you:

  • Undertaking study of a Bachelor of City Planning or equivalent OR Undertaking study of a City Planning degree in 2025 or equivalent.
  • Commitment to full time weekday working hours for the duration of 12 months from start date.
  • Ability to research, analyse and solve problems relating to urban growth.
  • Understanding of the general planning and servicing issues that affect Sydney Water.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • High attention to detail.
