About your role:

Sydney Water Digital Business Programs (DBP) improve and transform the experience of customers and employees through the efficient delivery of a business-focussed program of work. We lead the design and development of Sydney Water's Digital portfolio for customer, business and corporate systems.

The role of the Business Analyst within DBP is critical to build an effective relationship with Users and Stakeholders through the delivery of quality business analysis outcomes to Digital Products, Projects and Initiatives. This is achieved based on sound analytics, observations and insights, through research with actual end users and by understanding the people who actually engage with digital solutions, their needs, preferences and pain points.

This role will work in the delivery of People Experience Program (PxP). PxP will transform our people experiences at Sydney Water, from recruitment to leaving, as well as our people day-to-day activities (rostering, time and attendance, payroll, recruitment, onboarding, learning and development, pay and performance management, talent and succession, and retention)

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

The proven ability to:

  • Explain business and technical concepts in simple terms.
  • Learn a new domain very quickly and teach aspects of the domain problem and solution to business and technical stakeholders.
  • Write effective business scenarios, requirements documentation and conceptual & functional design documentation.
  • Analyse and distil problems, collaborate with others to identify creative solutions and promote simplified alternatives.
  • Estimate, negotiate, facilitate and interview stakeholders.
  • Plan and organise to ensure the timely completion of tasks and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Apply elicitation skills to identify and understand stakeholders needs and concerns and understand the environment in which they work.
  • Apply requirements analysis and communication skills to:
  • Prioritise and elaborate requirements, to identify and recommend improvements and to verify and validate requirements.
  • Manage conflicts, manage scope, manage requirements communications and to maintain knowledge for future use.
  • Manage RTM during the delivery of the program.
  • Apply solution assessment and validation skills to ensure the solution meets the business need and to communicate gaps to the business stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of commercial delivery methods including waterfall, agile (Scrum) & iterative approaches
  • Industry trends and advancements that offer Sydney Water business opportunity and advantage.
  • Knowledge of Human Centred Design (HCD) and/or Design Thinking is highly desirable.

About you 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in formal Business Analysis methods on projects and initiatives varying in size, complexity, ambiguity and abstraction.
  • Apply industry standard business analysis frameworks, methods, tools and techniques including.
  • Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABoK)
  • Process modelling to BPMN standard.
  • Business Analysis within Waterfall / Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Stakeholder workshops/interviews
  • RTM
  • Service Blueprints
  • Conceptual data modelling
  • Having experience in HCM transformation programs is highly desirable.
