Senior Environmental Specialist

The purpose of this position is to provide environmental leadership, specialist environmental advice, reporting and analysis, environmental training and awareness, auditing, and environmental communications to maintain and continually improve the environmental governance framework that supports Sydney Water to meet its compliance obligations and environmental objectives.

What you will be doing:

  • Coordinate environmental inputs into annual audit programs , to maintain ISO14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) certification
  • Lead development, maintenance and monitoring of the Sydney Water Environment Plan
  • Provide specialised advice on environmental risks, including advice and support for the environment enterprise risk and associated reporting
  • Lead coordination and quality assurance of environmental performance insights reporting
  • Develop, implement and monitor environmental communication programs, including coordination of events
  • Develop, monitor and continually improve environmental capability, training and awareness to meet EMS requirements
  • Maintain, implement and improve frameworks for consideration of environmental and sustainability requirements in procurement
  • Provide specialised advice to business areas on environmental compliance and environmental processes

 

About you:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and 7+ years’ experience working in environmental management for a large, complex organisation
  • Superior understanding of ISO14001 management systems, continuous improvement and environmental governance + ISO 14001 Lead auditor
  • Broad-ranging understanding of current environmental and resource management issues, including experience in environmental impact assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and improve the performance of systems and process
  • Superior understanding of NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation and related regulation
  • Demonstrated ability to compile concise, clear, purposeful and accurate communications
  • High level conceptual and critical thinking skills with the ability to solve problems
  • High level engagement, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities to meet deadlines in a high-volume environment
