About This Role:

The Senior Sustainability Advisor will lead and support the implementation of sustainability initiatives including but not limited to, sustainable procurement (supply chain), circular economy principles, low carbon solutions and climate resilience strategies in our Major Projects, ensuring sustainability performance to meet Major Project’s goal expectations. They will also provide sustainability advice to multi-disciplined teams, championing low carbon infrastructure solutions.

The purpose of the Major Projects business is to lead and manage the prudent, safe, timely and cost-effective development and delivery of Sydney Water's Major Project program. To ensure the high profile and strategically important investments we make are delivered successfully in the eyes of our customers, our stakeholders and ourselves.

While successful development and the ultimate delivery and handover of significant assets is a key role of Major Projects from a technical perspective, its main focus is on strategy realisation and value creation from a social, environmental, and economic perspective.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert sustainability advice across major projects and support implementation of Sydney Water’s sustainability, low‑carbon and climate‑resilience strategies.
  • Identify, develop and deliver sustainability initiatives, including capability uplift, contractor oversight and integration of sustainability requirements into design and procurement.
  • Lead and manage sustainability ratings and processes, review contractor documentation, and ensure alignment with policies, procedures and the Environmental Management System.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on sustainability performance, risks, lessons learned and improvement opportunities across projects and business areas.
  • Deliver training, prepare stakeholder communications, and liaise with government and professional organisations to support consistent and effective sustainability outcomes.

To be successful in this role you will bring:

  • Relevant qualifications in environmental science/engineering and extensive (7+ years) sustainability experience in infrastructure environments.
  • Strong background working with multi‑disciplinary project teams, sustainability ratings (e.g., IS Council) and carbon accounting principles.
  • Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and communicate effectively across all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with sound knowledge of current environmental and sustainability legislation and issues.
  • Demonstrated capability to drive continuous improvement and embed better work practices across programs of work.

This role will based in Parramatta, with travel to project sites across the Greater Sydney region required
