  • Flexible / hybrid work options based out of Parramatta
  • 35hr week, base salary $120,469.44 and fortnightly RDO’s

An exciting opportunity has become available for Modellers to join the Engineering and Tech Support team within Sydney Water.

Modellers are responsible for creating & maintaining Water (Hydro-dynamic & quality) models and Odour & Corrosion (O&C) models.

Our models support the decision making for billions of dollars’ worth of capital investment programs, Wastewater annual performance assessment & EPA licence reporting, sewage discharge estimation to quantify environmental impact to waterways for EPA incidents, and customer/stakeholder enquiries.

Responsibilities:

  • Effective assurance & stewardship of the Modelling process for Water, Wastewater, Stormwater, Waterways, O&C models, including their respective digital platforms.
  • Provide timely analysis & insights from model outputs, into regulatory reporting and incidents.
  • Ensure model life cycle plans are developed and maintained, to ensure models are working within specified limits.
  • Provide timely analysis & insights from model outputs to internal/external stakeholders & customers.
  • Document and maintain version control of changes/additions to models within modelling tools, to meet our quality assurance obligations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the quality management systems (QMS) of the Modelling process, to ensure modelling outputs meet the changing needs of our regulators, customers & business, changes in technology and alignment with best practice etc.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of and experience with model types utilised across the asset value chain to model various scenarios, such as Water pressure/flow across the network, Wastewater network flow, odour and corrosion impacts, Stormwater quantity and quality, Waterway quality etc.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with Sydney Water Hydro-Dynamic, Quality & Odour/Corrosion modelling tools (Infoworks WMS platform, OACIS platform, Mouse, Source, TUFLOW, RMA, Mike + etc.) and input databases (Hydra, CUGS, GIS information, Maximo BI, IICATS BI, HYDSTRA, etc.).
  • Proven working experience in use of models to assess existing system performance, identify performance gaps, set performance targets and benchmarks.
  • Technical expertise in calibrating models for use as a planning support tool to undertake servicing strategies, detailed planning (options reports), investment plans, renewals need assessments (and sizing), operational / shutdown planning, investigation of complaints etc.
  • Experience in understanding/interpreting business needs and outcomes using modelling tools to provide information and advice to strategist, planners and other information consumers.


Essential Requirements:

  • Thorough understanding of model services, practices and procedures.
  • Strong project leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Engineering and/or Science background particularly relevant to water industry.
  • Ability to meet project milestones and SLA deadlines for modelling output.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
