About the role:

The Lead Maintenance ESS plays a pivotal role - ensuring Sydney Water meets its obligations by delivering optimal cost, risk and performance outcomes across the full asset lifecycle — from creation through maintenance to renewal. Within this context, the Lead Maintenance Engineer/Scientist/Specialist drives high‑quality outcomes.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead asset inputs into the integrated TOTEX Investment and Works Plan, identifying assets of concern and progressing them for renewal or replacement planning.
  • Develop, review and govern asset maintenance and renewal strategies, ensuring alignment with Strategic Asset Management standards and performance expectations.
  • Provide oversight of condition assessment activities, including specialist assessments, and monitor asset risks to inform prioritisation and investment decisions.
  • Act as a visible, site‑connected leader within the ROMP teams, coordinating and facilitating ROMP forums to surface operational risks, performance issues and mitigation actions.
  • Ensure assets are accurately identified, managed and risk‑assessed in Maximo (and HIDRA), including criticality, spares and risk mitigation assessments.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and complex problem‑solving for critical, high‑cost or recurring asset failures, supporting operational licence compliance.

About you:

In addition to a tertiary qualification in Engineering or another relevant discipline, and a full current drivers license, we are ideally looking for:

  • Some experience in water supply, water treatment networks or stormwater would be beneficial, or experience in another process focussed industry
  • Experience with Maximo or a similar CMMS system highly regarded
  • Knowledge of RCA (root cause analysis) and AMS (asset management systems)
