About the role
The Business Customer Officer carries out proactive and responsive trade waste activities to support effective customer management, compliance decisions, and positive trade waste outcomes.
Primarily field-based, the role focuses on low-risk customer site inspections and a high-volume of trade wastewater sampling events alongside supporting pollution investigations as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver trade waste activities, including customer sampling and site inspections, in line with procedures and safety requirements.
- Collect and manage trade waste samples, ensuring quality assurance, data integrity, and chain‑of‑custody standards are met.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation across relevant systems while supporting team priorities and high‑volume activities.
- Engage with business customers to coordinate access, explain requirements, and undertake inspections, sampling, and investigations.
- Monitor and support customer compliance with contractual trade waste obligations.
- Identify and escalate compliance risks, support investigations and audits, and promote safe work practices and stakeholder collaboration.
About you:
In addition to tertiary or trade qualifications in Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline, and a valid driver’s licence, we are looking for:
- Experience undertaking wastewater field-based sampling, environmental monitoring or customer/pre-treatment inspection activities.
- Ability to manage physical aspects of the role, including attending commercial and industrial customer sites, opening grease trap or pre-treatment lids and lifting and carrying auto-samplers.
- High level of customer service and relationship management skills.
- Ability to plan and carry out work autonomously and efficiently, with excellent organisation skills.
- Well-developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to work safely in field environments.
