Exciting opportunities have become available for two Environmental Liaison Officers to join the Customer Experience team within Sydney Water. One opportunity is permanent-full time, and one is a term maternity leave backfill position for a minimum of 6 months.

As Environmental Liaison Officer you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a trusting and constructive relationship with the environmental Regulator, the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), allowing Sydney Water to discharge its environmental regulatory responsibilities in a manner that complies with all legislative obligations.

The role is the primary interface with the EPA, responsible for the interpretation of complex situations and documentation, and the translation of this information into easily consumable information that guides regulatory and business response.


Responsibilities:

  • Support responses between Sydney Water and environmental regulator (EPA) and relevant authorities to ensure Sydney Water is effectively meeting its regulatory requirements.
  • Work collaboratively to obtain insights from Customers, Community, Regulators, Government and Business Stakeholder to support and improve the regulatory relationship.
  • Support the organisation to ensure the provision of timely, accurate and high-quality response to information requests.
  • Support work across the organisation to develop strategic improvement plans.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report performance, capturing issues to be addressed through business improvement.
  • Participate in risk assessments to ensure key issues and opportunities are identified and managed through appropriate strategies.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of Management System Frameworks across the organisation.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Degree qualification in science, engineering or a related discipline, or experience deemed equivalent.
  • 3 years’ experience managing complex regulator/ stakeholder relationships.
  • Sound knowledge of Sydney Water’s operating and regulatory environment.
  • Sound knowledge of state and federal environmental legislation.
  • Superior written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Superior research and analytical skills.
